Clean Energy | Salkhit Wind Power Plant

Clean Energy | Salkhit Wind Power Plant

Project Location: Ulan Bator in Mongolia

Methodology: ACM0002: Grid-connected electricity generation from renewable sources Ver. 20.0

Definition:

“Clean Energy” LLC (Project Owner) set up a wind farm in an area called Salkhit uul, which translates as “windy mountain”, about 70 km southeast of the country’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, in Mongolia. Clean Energy LLC’s wind farm has a capacity of 49.6 MW and generates (net) 168.5 GWh of electricity per year. The annual average emission reduction is estimated to be 190,405 tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e).

The specific objectives of the project are:

Help promote the application of wind energy in Mongolia.
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Mongolia compared to business-as-usual scenario.
Create local employment opportunities during the assembly and installation of wind turbines and during the operation of the wind farm.
Reduce other pollutants such as SO2 and soot from the power generation industry compared to the usual business approach.
It reduces coal burning by 122 thousand tons and saves 1.6 million tons of fresh water per year.
